Living and Working in West Arnhem Land is a cultural induction course covering the people, communities and culture of West Arnhem Land. There are 6 units that cover topics such as history, language, kinship and communication. It emphasises that local people have rights to their country and knowledge, and that these should be respected at all times.
By completing this course you will develop a greater understanding of the people of West Arnhem Land. You will understand the basics of cultural awareness as a way of reflecting on your own cultural beliefs and those of other people.
This course was developed in close consultation with cultural leaders across West Arnhem Land. Each unit of the course has videos of some of these leaders. They tell their own stories about cultural awareness, to support newcomers to fit in when they come to live and work in West Arnhem Land.
The course also draws on the expertise of linguists and other professionals. It contains many links to resources that you can use for further learning.
The course will take 6 hours to complete.
